Finally Back--And a Quilt!

Sorry I've been away so long! We've been out of town for most of the last two and a half weeks. We spent five days in Baltimore, 2 1/2 in D.C., and a week in Michigan. I have lots of photos to share and will be posting about them soon.

What I do want to show are a couple of recent finishes. Although I've said little about quilting over the last several months, I was actually working on a quilt. Our friends had their first baby in March and I just finished their quilt and gave it to them a couple of days ago.

I saw the Peter Rabbit fabric at my local quilt shop and fell in love with it. While I waited for (an excuse to buy it) some one of my friends to tell me they were having a baby (and I didn't have to wait long!) I thought of patterns I might use. I finally found what I was looking for in The Thimbleberries Guide for Weekend Quilters.

Here are close-ups of two of Beatrix Potter's beautiful illustrations that repeat on the fabric:

I used a complementary striped homespun on the back and it is really soft. Chiara wasted no time breaking her quilt in and rolled around on it a bit for us.

But before Chiara got to use her quilt, this little guy was finished and decided to take a rest on it and see how it was.

This little penguin I've named Paul and he is a gift for a friend in the Comparative Literature Department. I heard a rumor that she's a fan of penguins and I thought he might make a good companion for her while she's slaving away on writing papers in her office.

That's all for now...back with more soon!

I have that same fabric but still no new babies around for me to make a quilt with it. I just fell in love with the beautiful illustrations and softness of the colors. Great job on your quilt.

What a beautiful quilt! Love the fussy cut fabrics!

What a lovely quilt! I do like the way you did the block. Hum.... you're giving some ideas. I have an embroidery cd of Beatrix Potter and was going to do embroidery blocks without framing and a 9 patch block, but I do like your block. Very pretty. Keep well!
