Handmade Ornaments!

It's strange that I used to be very embarrassed of the handmade ornaments I made because I thought that they didn't look very well done. Now that I've returned to my crafty origins over the last couple of years, I can't help but find them charming! With that thought in mind, I knew that I wanted to have a Christmas tree eventually that would be dedicated solely to handmade ornaments. This year that seems to have worked out. We decided to purchase a small tree because the large artificial tree that we've had since before I was born was handed down to me but it's really too big for our small apartment. The small tree is pre-lit. I've never had a pre-lit tree and I was amazed at how easy it is to assemble! The great thing about small trees is that you don't need to hang as many ornaments either. All around, this was the perfect solution.

I wanted to make some ornaments to hang on our tree this year and I ran across a great tutorial on Skip to my Lou blog. If you're looking for a fast and fun, satisfying project, you should really check this tutorial out! The pattern is actually for a Bird Advent Calendar but I decided to just make ornaments. Here are my first two ornaments:

Bird Felt Ornament 1

Birdie Felt Ornament 2

I've got plans to make a couple more for my mom and maybe a few others.

I keep finishing things (I feel like I haven't said that phrase in an extremely long time) so I'll have plenty more to post!

Thank you, Carla and Vicki! I totally love birds. We have a bird feeder and I am happy to just sit and watch them through the window. They're so beautiful and charming. :)

Those little birds are so sweet. I would take hand made over store bought any day!
